Do you dream of immersing yourself in the atmosphere of white nights and drawbridges? A trip to St. Petersburg is always a great idea, and the northern capital equally warmly welcomes guests from different cities of Russia and from other countries.
If you are planning to book a hotel from abroad, you will inevitably face questions: in what currency to pay for accommodation and what payment methods will be available?
It is worth noting right away that in Russia the official currency is the ruble (RUB), and payment for goods and services, including accommodation in hotels, is made in it. This does not mean that you will not be able to use your bank card or other payment options, but it is important to be prepared for possible conversions and commissions.
1. Cash payment in rubles:
The easiest and most reliable way is to exchange currency for rubles upon arrival in St. Petersburg. Currency exchange offices can be found at the airport, train stations, banks and shopping centers.
2. Paying with a Russian bank card:
If you have friends or relatives in Russia, you can ask them to book a hotel and pay for your stay with their Russian card.
3. International payment systems (limited):
Due to the departure of Visa and MasterCard from our country, payment with cards of foreign banks is currently impossible. However, cards of these payment systems issued by Russian banks are valid without restrictions.
3. MIR system:
The Russian payment system MIR is actively developing and is accepted in many hotels of the northern capital. If your bank issues MIR cards, this option may be the most convenient for you.
4. UnionPay:
The Chinese payment system UnionPay can also become a replacement for Visa and MasterCard. Some Russian banks issue UnionPay cards, and they can be used for payment in hotels in St. Petersburg.
5. Cryptocurrency:
Many hotels in St. Petersburg already accept cryptocurrency as payment for accommodation.
1. Plan ahead:
Don't leave your hotel booking until the last minute to choose the best deals and familiarize yourself with all the payment terms.
2. Check payment information on the hotel website or with managers:
Feel free to ask questions and clarify details to avoid unpleasant surprises.
3. Keep in mind possible fees:
Additional fees may apply when converting currency or using international payment systems.
4. Take cash with you:
Despite the development of non-cash payments, cash may be necessary in some situations.
When planning a trip to St. Petersburg, don't forget to take into account all the nuances associated with paying for your stay at the hotel. Be prepared for the fact that your usual payment methods may not be available.
